anyone ever noticed A LOT of his stuff sounds the same.

especially for the love of god and incantation. they start of the EXACT same.

Now I'm not trying to run the guy down i think he's extremely talented and i like his stuff but for someone with his level of ability surely he shouldn't feel the need to use the same notes for different songs.

i read people hounding oasis for it on this site.

All shred esque music sounds alike IMO. Although it's amazing.

That's what we like to call a "signature sound".

Steve Vai isn't shred.

And yeah a lot of his style sounds the same. But you can say that about anyone. Most people have a style and sound that they like and they work within that. Or they repeat certain themes in their music over their careers/lives.

Hence "shred esque"

yes i agree it's his signature sound.

but the intro to two of his songs are identical.

that isn't signature sound that's just laziness.
#7
Steve Vai is awesome. His music deseserves a much better than being called "shred"

Now somebody please close this thread.

well considering most ppl around here suck steve vai's dick 24/7, you may have just made a lot of ppl's **** list.

but anyways, i agree that most of that type of music sounds the same. but then again, you really can't make it sound much different when it's all flyin at 200 mph.

but idk, maybe he started writing one of those songs and had a couple of different ideas of where it could go and made two songs out of it.

why should the thread be closed?

its not against the rules to discuss steve vai's style pal.

Its against the rules to discuss it outside of the Steve Vai thread in the shred forum

And they're not "exactly the same." Two notes are the same, thats it.
#14
it's still pretty bad considering how much talent he has.

if an artist brings a song out tomorrow using those 2 notes as his first 2 in a song he will probably get sued.
#16
I've noticed a lot of Satch's stuff sounds similar. It's just the whole Shred style. Most of the theme's of the music they play for are the same just as other bands write about the same material. It's going to sound similar because they have the same feel for it as they did when they wrote the first song about it.

The only guys that sound the same in each song is Nickelback.

Tool, anyone?
Alter Bridge, maybe?
A bit of John Mayer?
Some beethoven sounds delightful, as well.

So Steve Vai has two songs that use the same two notes in the intro...

Nitpicking a little aren't we...?

i'd say that all the similarities are just his playing style. There will be many songs where steve vai chops at the whammy bar. You could say hes being lazy for using the same technique over and over again, but thats what makes him Steve Vai and no-one else...
#26
I don't think Satriani and Vai have the same "style". I've heard tons of songs of both and I can only recall hearing something familiar with like only 3 songs.

And about Incantaion and For the Love of God...you're kind of exagerating lol, it's just the same 2 nots in the intro, then the rest of both songs are nothing alike........

Steve Vai = EPIC WIN

but i know what you mean, but yeah its just a signature, its probably not the exact same, its probably jusat simjilar and the more you listewn to it, the more you gonna notice the differences, like people who say death metal all sounds the same, it doesn't actually bnut to the untrained ear it does

it's still pretty bad considering how much talent he has.

Instrumental and compositional skills are two completely separate fields.

...modes and scales are still useless.

If it's ok saying Vai's music sounds the same the same holds for Y. Malmsteen, Satriani and so on. If you happen to like their music if will sound much different to you.
