I know an attenuator decreases wattage for overdriven tube tone, but is a master volume similar? If I turn the master volume on an amp to one, and put the clean on ten, will it overdrive? And same goes the other way. If I turn the master volume to ten and crank the clean channel, will it stay clean? (I know it won't stay totally clean, but cleaner than the first scenario, I mean).
Daron. The Pit loves you.
daron aka kosmic is now a pit legend
Best post on the pit. Good for you.
thats pretty epic.
So you're like a slower paced Forrest Gump...
yes to your first scenario, no to your second.

it also does not act like your concept of an attenuator. You're how much the amplifier amplifies the signal, not amplifying it all the way and then killing it down you where you want it.

You get different kids of distortion from the power amp section of an amp than you do from the preamp section.
