I thought Equilibrium were pretty awful live. I saw them at Bloodstock 2009, and I actually ended up walking away. Even though I was quite into them at the time.

Equilibrium is alright, I never heard them live though. However, I do know that Korpiklaani is amazing both live and on album.

I think they are passed their best. Voice of Wilderness and Tales Along this Road was the band at their best, everything since has been of increasingly lesser quality. They seem stuck in a musical rut to me, rehashing the same ideas.
I saw them live in 2007 and they were fantastic, but I saw them in 2010 and I didn't feel it had the same energy as the previous time. Not bad, just lacking somewhat.

Why don't I come in B&A more often, this place is a goldmine for toonz.

I'm digging Equilibrium, gonna fully listen to their two latest albums tomorrow.

Start with Blut Im Auge from Sagas. It's the first song I ever listened to by them and it got me hooked.

Well if anyone cares Korpiklaani is touring with Moonsorrow and Tyr for their new album.
I'll probably go to both of their shows coming in my area (Los Angeles).

they're shitting out albums these days, Korpiklaani.
I can't help but feel Quality control should be a bit more rigid.

There's a new Viter album due out soon. However I've got mixed feelings from the tracks I've heard.

Never got into Korpiklaani tbh, they seemed too camp and amateurish, - the whole "dancing polka and smashing slabs of ale" is to me the cancer of the FM genre in general.

Completley agree with Emenius. the 'battle/drinking' folk metal is one of the cancers in music.

Any fans of Грай (GRAI), their new album О Земле Родной is an absolute gem, some of the funnest folk metal I've ever heard without being ridiculously cheesy.
Here's a clip, if you's haven't heard them before:

I think I have it on my PC, but I never really listened to it.

Which reminds me, the new Viter is out, but I don't think I want to hear it after some of the abysmal tracks they previewed from it.

One of the best metal styles to me is folk metal. This is respected genre for metal playing + adding national folk instruments. I came up recently with one great band called Skyforger. These guys come from latvia and I like their music a lot. Don't know what they're singing about, but i really like it. It's another example of good folk metal

Thoroughly meh.

Ragnarok and Eric the Red are vastly superior to anything they've ever done. The new stuff I can't take seriously at all.

They were catchy and fun live, but I'm still not gonna listen to them much, especially their new stuff.

Also, to the previous poster. Combining "folk" instruments and modern music=/=good. Nor does that equal why Folk Metal is good. Then again, aside from a few bands I still cant really take most of the genre very seriously.

The whole springtime album was dire. Such a shame as Dzherelo showed a so much promise.
Still I'm glad they did a ukrianian version of the album, as one of my criticisms was the fact they chose to sing in english, when a. it's not their first language and sounds akward, and b. put such an emphasis on the folk music and culture and whatnot.

Dzherelo was the direction I assumed they'd take as the guide. As for the video/song, it still baffles me how someone could trade black metal for a mixture of deathcore and system of a down :/ The use of folky elements in that song is just insulting hah.
