That's what sonic youth did, they took cheap guitars and tuned them to alternate tunings to make them sound more interesting.
#3
wow... cheap guitars are hunted?

Is it that time of year already?

Honestly you can make any guitar sound good, provided you have enough technical mastery.

A bad instrument played by a good musician will always sound better than a good instrument played by a bad musician. First thing I learned about making music.

its not the guitar its the player / amp that makes the gutiar sound good.

I know, that's why I put the "/lame" at the end. It was a highly retarded joke.

Well a good player can make a bad guitar sound good only if its playable, meaning no extreme buzzing, no frets popping out, and properly set-up

Ya well when i wrestle/play with my dog he sometimes jumps on my back and starts humping me. But should he be doing this if he is neutered?

Most of the stuff is on the amp and effects rather than on the guitar.
I once watched a video of Yngwie Malmsteen playing through some kind of Fender metal amp, and I really never heard such an awful tone. My squier going through a "Digitech Death Metal Distortion" sounded more soft and nice that that. And Yngwie has an awesome technique and a great tone.

You know, I tried one of these Vintage brand strats. They may be cheap, but they sound great. They feel kinda cheap, though.

i think a lot of you missed the point. i was wondering if any of you had any other videos of cool stuff played on crap stuff.

and whaling is the appropriate term

Don't you mean "wailing"?
#26
Yeah, you can make any guitar sound good, all it takes is an Orange amp.

Which are very expensive.

Imagine how much better that would sound with a Fender or Gibson running through it. You can make a cheap guitar sound decent, but never comparable with something higher quality.

Very nice videos. Doesn't Victoor Wooten's brother play a squier? He's ****ing awesome.

I'm thinking about getting a squier and upgrading it considering a bunch are made of alder or cedar or basswood instead of agathis nowadays.
#33
like a lot of other people, the fact that he is playing through an orange amp invalidates your argument cuz its an expensive piece of gear
