Hi,

I bought some new gear and I play the likes of BFMV, Avenged Sevenfold etc I was told to buy a Overdrive pedal, dunno why im kinda new to all this but what would the overdrive do to the setup I have just now (check signature).

Is it worth getting one?

If so what one? I seen the BadMonkey, BOSS and Tubescreamer.

Thanks,

Rowan

it would allow you to use the valveking's natural distortion to its full potential (which undoubtedly would sound better than the metal zone)

So using the LEAD section on the amp sounds alot better than the METALZONE :S

Really?

You'll have to try it out. The majority on UG thinks that OD is pretty much necessary with a tube amp.

However, I had the Maxon OD808 (the top-tier OD pedal) and sold it immediately because I didn't think it was a huge difference in tone.

An overdrive will help to boost and/or tighten up your tone when you throw it in front of your Valveking's dirty channel. You can use it to get a chunkier or higher-gain metal tone, or for some extra volume when doing solos, depending on how you set it. Definitely a worthwhile investment.

For what you're doing, most people around here will probably recommend either the Bad Monkey or Tubescreamer.

ANYTHING will sound better than that metalzone...

As far as i know the only liquor that should not be stored after opened is wine, and even then it's mainly the french one. American wine usually has conservatives in it to stop this.

Yeh I was looking at Matt Tucks setup and he uses a TubeScreamer...

Why is the MetalZone really bad? I mean ive never noticed it to be bad... what is soo bad about it.

if you put your metalzone up against something of higher quality...trust me you will hear a difference. the metal zone is all tinny, digital, flabby...

No soul or any real power. It's the difference between one guy with a 15w Solid State amp and someone with a Mesa Triple Rec.

Maybe your ear isn't developed enough to hear it yet, but the tone on the MZ is tinny and digital compared with a fully overdriven tube amp.

klkl,

so I dont wanna waste alot of money... like I said I have:

Schecter C1 Exotic Star
Peavey Valveking 112

so so far a pretty decent setup, and for the likes of the music I play BFMV, Avenged Sevenfold etc... you think an overdrive pedal is something that would help me get a better sound from it for these type of songs..

And with the Tubescreamer/BadMonkey... would using the BOSSMT2 be a bad thing or shud Ijust use the LEAD section on the amp?

get a cheap marshall... my MG15DFX has a button that simulates the sound of one of the expensive tube marshall amps.

Personally, if you're VK 's stock I'd go about replacing the speaker before getting an OD pedal. Take a look at Celestion V30s or G12T-75s.

Also - the MZ would be better off outside your setup entirely IMO. Maybe use it as a trade in for an OD? The VK has more than enough gain on tap once you replace the speaker, unless you're playing death metal.

i dunno do u like the tone u get without it? if so just get a clean boost when and if you start giging or if u do want more gain go for a TS-9 i prevfer those over bad monkey but whatever works for you man

Because the majority of amp requests want maximum heaviness with minimum $. *shrug

Anyway. I think a BBE Green Screamer, or a TS9 DX would suit the TS.

You can use the MetalZone as a boost cant you?

Quote by Guitarmiester
Most of you guys are clueless. The MT-2 can be used as a boost and sound fine as long as you know how to set it.

Gain - 0
Volume - Start at 12 o'clock and adjust from there
EQ's - You'll have to use your own ears. Start with all the knobs at 12 o'clock and go from there.

As for you guys that say it'll sound like crap, tell that to Petrucci. He's used the MT-2 as a boost in the studio.

Try that

if i cant rely on my amps distortion alone, theres no point in the amp at all

no use for OD pedals - any Marshall ive had that i didnt like i sold, the ones i did - mod them
