ok... lately, I've been noticing that whenever some screams in a song, it's automatically labled as emo or screamo... I'm sick of it

sooooooo, I wanna know your opinions on the most haunting/best screams in rock history!

label the song and/or the artist, and if you want, your reason for it.

I think Dave Grohl and Kurt Cobain have one of the best screams.

oh, and Chester Bennington from Linkin Park... Given up = 19 second continuous scream

Roger Waters' scream at the end of "The Happiest Days of Our Lives." Mostly because it reminds me of something a friend does.

Billie Holiday's at the end of Strange Fruit. Well, it's not a scream per say- it's an actual word, but it kinda tails off into a cry of anguish.

Most screaming is unnecessary though.

tom araya's scream on angel of death.

Maybe in the 80s, but now, to me, it sounds like a 10 year old girl.

I like that song, and Slayer, though.

I think the scream at the end of Climbing Up The Walls (Radiohead) can be pretty creepy
especially when it is really dark in the room and through headphones.
Lord Gold feeds from your orifices and he wants to see you sweat.
Lord Gold probes you publicly and makes your pussy wet.
Now say his name.....

Malefic in Sunn O)))'s "Cursed Realms (Of The Winterdemons)".

Chino Moreno in Deftones' "Knife Party".

I just find it to be fake- like you write a song and think "right I'm gonna scream here"- it just doesn't make sense to me, so I find it unnecessary.

People disagree- fair enough.

As much as i dont like the song, Tom Araya's scream at the beginning of Angel of Death is a good one, altho Tom's voice doesnt exactly lend itself well to the normal Metal sound sometimes. Claudio Sanchez's screams in songs like The Light and the Glass and the weird part between Three Evils and The Crowing are awesome, very creepy and haunting. But IMO, the best Screamer is Spencer from Underoath. Unlike alot of screamers that are in similar bands, he has a screaming range, meaning he can do both low, metal-ish type screams and higher-pitched screams well.

I agree. To me, it's like an accessory to the voice, unlike death metal, it's a typical thing to hear screaming. I can't say I've heard a piece of music that gives a song a powerful moment in a song.

Agreed on all points.

I nominate Roger Daltry's scream at the beginning of Who Are You? and Ozzy screaming in Black Sabbath.

The best scream in rock history goes the Roger Daughltry (sp) of The Who for the scream at the end of "Won't Get Fooled Again"

The most haunting goes to Ozzy Osbourne for screaming the lyrics "Oh God Please NOOO!!"
in Black Sabbath's Black Sabbath, that's my 2 cents
