Hey folks,

I just picked up a new B-52 AT100 head from Guitar Center and it kicks ass

I just had one question, when I turn off the power (with the standby on) it makes this pop noise, is this bad?

It doesn't seem like its hurting it any, it sounds awesome.

thanks

You want to turn it on standby mode first wait a second then power it off.

Yes I have it on standby leave it there for about 15 minutes turn on the power jam for about 30 minutes turn off the power and it makes the pop then I turn off the standby.

You only need to leave the standby on for about a minute.

You don't need to worry about standby when turning it off, standby is just a chance for the tubes to warm up before the signal starts passing through them. So it'd look like:

Power on + standby engaged for about a minute
Standby disengaged
Play
Power off.

SSL27, it has been said that switching the amp to standby mode while turning it off lets it cool down while the powers still running, meaning longer tube life.

So I'm doing it backwards?

I though you turn on the standby then the power then play then turn off the power then standby.

Yes...

Doing it the correct way will stop the popping.

Well, your tubes aren't going to cool off any. If you left your amp on standby for about 2 minutes or so, your tubes would be quite hot, almost as hot as if you cut off standby after 1 minute.

Standby warms up the tubes before the signal goes through em. It is better for the amp to cut it on standby for a few seconds before cutting the power off.

OH, it's on.

The whole point of standby is to warm up or keep the tubes warm. Leaving it on standby won't cool it off any.
