It certainly looks cool, and for $300 (I'm guessing that's american) I reckon you'd get a bass of decent quality, though I don't imagine you'd get any stand-out features. Personally, I'd recommend Aria basses for beginners, the ones with 2 pickups and wooden finishes are great.

To be honest I rate them as highly as I do Encore basses... just above child like.

It's certainly a bass you can start off with but he will grow tired pretty quickly having to constant retune every 15 mins.
I was looking on that site and i think if he is beginning he should get one of the arias or the SX the aria's are better and you can get them with the precision and jazz pickups rather than just the precision pickup. more versatile bass
