Well guys and girls, here you you can discuss about which is the strangest tunning you've ever seen or played on guitar or bass

No matter how many strings did the instrument have, as long as it wasn't in standard tunning

For me, the strangest tunning I've ever seen was drop G# with a 6 string guitar (Invisible Kid by Metallica), and the strangest tunning I've ever played was drop C (not that weird)

I know there are lots of strange tunnings, and if you know one of them share it with people

Here you go...

I've played in both Open Amaj7, and with all the strings tuned to D.

I got lazy once, bought a 12-string guitar and tuned it into the chromatic scale.
I'm a communist. Really.

I got the idea from a Velvet underground song. I recorded a song with it, but that was long, long ago.

the open tunings seem really weird/awkward to me

Keith Richards and George Thorogood use Open G. That's the basis of their entire sound, it's really great for blues.

I play in F# a lot after listening to Sonic Youth

Interesting. It turns out that there are people on the forum who play an upright bass. I'll make a note of that.

*makes note*

*puts note on wall*

*stares at note for a minute*

*sits back down and resumes doing what I was doing*

I love the tuning B F# B E A B as opposed to D A D G C D, it's more darker and gives more drone to it when the bass is high.

I like the tunings where I can use powerchords with one finger barred and use it as an B open-tuning too.

B |---0---0-----|
A |---0---0-----|
E |---0---0-----|
B |-3---5---0---|
F#|-3---5---0---|
B |-3---5---0---|

Sounds amazing to me.

A personal one I came up with (low to high) E-A-B-E-B-D#.

Played open it's a Emaj7sus4 and sounds awesome. Also very fun to mess around with.

Also sonic youth tunes pretty strangely to say the least.

i've once tuned my guitar to BAGDAD tuning. Although i admit i got that idea off someone here.

I once tried playing in BAGDAD tuning after reading it from some thread. Needless to say, it sounded awful.

I don't remember why I tuned to that, but it was fun.

EDIT: CABAGE is the strangest tuning I've seen.

I used to tune in drop-C in 460 Hz. The most fucked up thing ever.

And Pantera always used to tune 25% of a note further down, which is super hard to replicate.

Open C is the most extreme I've ever done. It's not that extreme, but it sounds nice.

CGCGCE. A lot of C's and G's....

Someone should try CBGB tuning.

, that's comical. Aren't they tearing it down though?
