get a toothpick or a matchstick (any wood that will fill in the hole) and put a little bit of wood glue on it and put it in the hole. let it dry then screw in the strap screw.
Send me off to bed forevermore.

Woodglue and like...small wood shavings. Or a toothpick. Lot's of fixes.

Perfect solution.

Toothpicks work fine, just slather them in woodglue and cram as many in the hole as you can fit. Let everything dry overnight, re-drill the hole and put the screw back in. My strap buttons have been holding strong for 2 years now.
