What exactly is so horrible about the MG series? I'd also like to know what the best head and cab that I can get in the $600-$1,000 range.

Use the search function for your MG query.
Don't expect many responses to your second (largely because we aren't going to waste our time guessing what kind of music you play)
Someones knowledge of guitar companies spelling determines what amps you can own. Really smart people can own things like Framus because they sound like they might be spelled with a "y" but they aren't.

look for the one with double locking bridge and with a locker nut and also with the color that fits you.

wtf?

TS, use the Search feature, there's TONS of threads on this.

Buy a used tube combo if you can, you don't need a stack and don't even try to say you do.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

i have a mg head... i dont think its horrible., my only heat with it is it squeals wayy too much when i turn it loud.

i play a telecaster and also have a strat , and the single coil pickups might contribute to the feedback ,..it doesnt squeal at all when i play my epiphone guitar, which has humbucker pickups, .. but like i said i play with a tele. and its really sensitive to feedback.

alot of people dont like the distortion on it. either. i think its ok

It sounds bad and is built horribly, not to mention it's voraciously overpriced.
The Laney Thread are big and clever. No exceptions.

^Well, if you're used to owning cheap amps, the MG may sound alright, maybe even good.
Once you spend a month or two owning a proper tube amp, when you go back to an MG or similar cheap amp, you wonder how you survived having a bad amp.
If you like the tones you can get, good for you.

You'll see that it's a bad amp soon enough.

And don't double post...

And if you're talking about a Vox AD series head, don't even bother, it would be an upgrade but you might as well sell your stack and get a much better amp in combo form.

i was thinking of trying a vox valvetronix 100 watt head.. with my mg cabinets

^^yeah.
But... we're kind of drifting away from the point of the thread, which is to help the TS.
Yeah, a Peavey Windsor and a nice cab would be nice. Maybe an avatar.

^Well, seeing as you already have a cab, just go for a better head.
The vox would be an upgrade, but not a huge one.

The distortion channel is CRUSHING!

Seriously, though, there are loads of great amps you could get for $600. Depends on your music style.
Happy, lost and still unaware.
