For the love of God I can't do this. It's physically impossible, I tell you.
Regardless.. is it just a matter of practice or ...me just not having creepy long fingers?

Can you play this comfortably:

Can you literally not get the 5th frets or are you finding it difficult to get to that chord in the middle of a progression?

In the middle of a progression definately. I can get it but it's very uncomfortable. I can get my index placed perfectly, but the ringfinger and pinky only somewhat reach the 'otherside' of the 4th fret, if you know what I mean. (Or 'start' of the 5th fret I guess) If I force it I can get it to the middle but that's just...no.

I guess I'll just keep practicing then.

Pretty easy so you just need to practice stretches more it seems.

How do you hold the neck? Baseball bat grip or do you reach around with thumb on the back? You should be doing the latter.

+1. That's an easy stretch. If you want a difficult one, try this:

G |-9

THAT cannot be physically possible.

oh don't listen to all the people patting themselves on the back saying it's sooooo easy.
It will take time for your fingers to loosen up so that it can be played comfortably. Even then, it is an awkward positioning.

Transitioning to that chord fast, smooth and accurately? VERY hard.

Petition for this to be come the "Impossible/Hard Chords thread". Or to make one. Please.

There's one that's called Name That Chord in MT. The chords are impossible and sound like crap!

quite easily, however

Not to be a jackass, but why not just play...

e|-0
B|-16
G|-0
D|-16

... exact same notes. There are other options too, depending on what exactly you need and how many tones you can add/subtract

If you want a chord thats a stretch, but actually comes up in normally play try a minor ninth barre on the A string.

Dude. Minor9 made easy:

that's a different sounding minor9, they are not interchangeable. Specifically mine is missing the b7 whereas yours is missing the 5(making mine more of a add9 I suppose). Second, mine has an E and an F a semitone apart whereas yours has them a octave and a semitone apart. Giving mine a very creepy pink floyd sound and yours a funkier sound.

If you notice in my post when I offered an alternative all the notes pitches are *exactly* the same. The only difference is the string they are played on.

i also found the chord easy. how big are your hands? just practice streches i suppose but u can definatly do it with time good luck

I wanted to throw in a stretch for your fingers. I just do my little stretch as an exercise. I know it can be simplified.

Junior's usually at least a little terse, but he knows his stuff. I've always read his posts in a grouchy grandfather voice, a grouchy grandfather with a huge stiffy for alternate picking.
Besides that, he's right this time. As usual.

WOW! way to help the poor guy. *Cough* asshole *Cough*

TS Don't get discouraged. Things that i thought once impossible now are easy. Everything seems hard at first. You just need to play slow enough that you can actualy make the change in time. Repeat over and over at this speed this will stretch you out and build a muscle memory of the shape. Then once you have it down slow slowly increase speed but always playing with good timing. A few months from now you'll look back and say damn thats an easy stretch and you'll be on here asking about something else that seems impossible.
Good Luck

Because the whole point was to perform the stretch for the challenge it provides.

OP: Make sure your thumb is low on the neck; that provides easier stretching.
