I've got the chance to buy a 5150 halfstack(matching cab) for £450
its in perfect working order, the cabs a bit banged up but the speakers are still mint

what do you guys think?
is it a good price?

Can you just buy the head?

If you can, I'd get the head and then buy a Framus 2x12 or something. Peavey cabs aren't very good.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

yeah, i heard they're not the best cabs
i was thinking maybe a marshall 1960a with v30s?

im gunna be playing some pretty big vennes soon so 4x12 is what im looking for

Marshall 1960a usually come stock with G12T-75, which would be a nicer sound than the V30's when paired with a 5150 head.

At least see if you like the peavey cab.. In my own ears, i find the sheffields sound much nicer than the v30's at least.

quick edit:

Also, since you're buying it used, its likely the speakers in the peavey cab have been broken in so it'll sound nice and warm for you already

A 4x12 isn't going to make you sound much louder, a 2x12 would be more than sufficient, but if you have the money, why not I guess.

I thought my 5150 sounded like crap through my 1960 with G12T-75s, way better with V30s, my Mark IV sounds awesome with the G12s though.

Vader is another good contender. its caters pretty much to the metal audience but i believe i've heard that some blues guys like em too.

if i remember right they use eminence Legend (not sure which series) speakers which is the supposed the V30 killer.

Never heard one personally tho so i can't say for sure :O

After checking the eminence site i'm positive their using the Legend V128
