I'm planning on buying the Hartke GT60 head with a GH410 cabinet. Anyone has any experience with this halfstack? I've read some reviews which are quite positive, but I'd like some more feedback before buying it.

Can you get to a SamAsh where you live? They sell/stock them. Always wanted to try one out myself.

Nothing great. You'd probably be better off setting your sights on something better and, if that means getting a combo instead, don't be put off by the idea. What sort of music do you play and what's your budget? You can certainly do better.

Don't i've played one, just sounded rubbish to be fair. It didn't cut through anything, had no articulation or definition to the sound and the distortion sounded horrible. Don't Do It.

^^ Rant over

What's your budget, What style of music do you play, What do you need this amp for etc.

By budget is 300-400 euro, a local store sells it for 289 atm, it was priced 610 at first I believe - I don't want anything too expensive. I play rock and hardrock and the occasional metal.

I can get one new for about 180 euro's they really are rubbish DO NOT BUY ONE

you also DONT REALLY NEED A HALF-STACK. A good tube combo will be plenty loud enough for all your needs. Even if you do gig you will know that you get mic'ed up through the PA anyway.

As with most guitar amps tube is best. I'd recommend something like a Peavey Classic 30 or a Laney VC30 however new these may be pushing your budget.

An epiphone Valve 15 might be a good area to look in.

For metal all of these may need pushing a tad with a good OD pedal

If you aren't gigging, a Laney VC15 and an overdrive pedal would suffice. If you are, same thing applies to the VC30. You could also, as suggested, try a Peavey Classic 30 but they're expensive in Europe. Finally, Thomann offer the Kustom Defender, so if you are gigging then that's a possible option, but I have no idea of how it sounds. Check the stuff they have here:

Mmhm. With my budget however, all tube amps I'll be able to purchase are 15W. You guess that's loud enough for gigging?

For smaller venues yes, but pretty much every larger venue you go to you will mic up through the in house PA system.

If you are unsure, save a bit of money and go for a 30watt tube combo. Most Solid State Stacks, especially that hartke one, wouldn't be suitable for gigging anyway.

I cheat, i use my Blues Junior for smaller venues; however, at larger venues i just plug my GT-8 straight through the PA.
