Is it possible to unplug the cable running from the head section of the combo to the speakers and plug that into an amp head so that I won't have to buy a cab?

It should be. You looking at getting a new head or something?

I'm currently doing that for my bass head, the speaker cable(from the combo speaker) plugs into the back of the combo head. I just unplugged it, then got an adapter so I could plug in another speaker cable. That just runs into my new bass head.

Yea, thats what I'm doing. Just make sure the ohms match up, if not, then something could go wrong. It should say in the manual, thats where I found it at least. Also make sure if the head has a higher output than the cab, to not push the volume too much.

Yup.
I actually plugged my friend's blackheart little giant head into it.
