I've just bought this:

Don't know why i bought it but it gives me a good chance to have another clean amp to use in stereo with my GT8 however, it has no cabinet and there was next to no information from the seller.

Does anybody know what it is? I know it is from the 70's and has tremelo and reverb but thats about it? Power? Ohms?

The plan is to; strip it down, re-tolex it, re-finish the front panel, replace the switch & jacks, replace the dials and if needs be replace the pots.

Can anybody help?

No idea how to help you, but it looks pretty badass.
You could run it through a 16 ohm cab, cause it's unlikely to break (unless it has a larger impedance).

It thought it looked pretty 'badass'!

Thats what i was thinking, but i'd have to build a 16 ohm cab first.

I'll probably use a direct injection box.

Open it up, show us some pictures of the inside.

I will do, being sent from a friend in newcastle (wye aye man - he sold it to me via a closed ebay auction).

Obviously it is a transitor amp but quite whats it's like is unknown - he says it works but he has no idea about tone.

(I aplogise for the Double post.)

It came today, and it really is 'badass' but i have some concerns:

  • It appears the input jacks might be slightly smaller than usual - is this possible?
  • The 'plug' has been cut off which leaves me with a problem. This is because we have very little information about this amp and it's origins installing the right plug could be difficult (American? European? British?)
  • Still no idea what output the speaker extension is as i can't open the back panel (the middle screw is threaded)
  • Just for the record it looks like it has ploughed a field with the control panel - but thats just cosmetic.

I have however found a website which has one of these for sale:

I've emailed them for info but they haven't replied.

Any thoughts guys?

looks kinda like a bass cab. any 16ohm cab would be safe to try it on.

the name of it though.....leads me to believe it's an old P.A. setup

I would rip it out and put one of these
http://www.ceriatone.com/productSubPages/ACBFVibroChamp/ACBFVibroChamp.htm
in the chassis, it would sound alot better, probably.

Tell us how it sounds

Oh, how i would love to do that however i have neither the time or the money. I've never actually heard this thing and don't know how it sounds as i have no cab to test it and believe it or not due to the unknown nature of this amp i'm not entirely sure what type of plug to use

I have however recieved an email from an online company with one for sale. Apparently they were made origionally for woolworths in the 70's and became popular in the clubs as they are almost like PA amps and have 3 input for everything from bass to guitar to microphone apparently. Still no idea on the Ohms of the cab however a 16ohm cab is probably a safe bet. He also said they sound 'cheesy' < which does not fill me with confidence. However it was and is dirt cheap!

This is just begging for the quote:

It's stereo amp, and I don't think it's tube. However, for a stereo amp, it is very good. Don't plug guitar into it; just use it as hi-fi if it works.

@ quote

I think you could really play with the inputs there. I'm thinking all 3 outputs from a SansAmp Para Driver? That would make a really cool tone.
Nope, no sig here.
