I use a Line 6 Spider III, i know , i don't like it, but i'm getting another amp soon, and it's just gonna have to do until then.
But on my amp it has 4 settings:
1.) clean
2.) crunch
3.) metal
4.) insane
...when i put it on the insane setting [which is really high distortion] and turn it up probably past about 4, it just screams...nonstop! I can play it, but it just screams like you're standing on an 8 yr-old's head or something, it's driving me crazy.
Can anybody tell me what this is and possibly how to fix it?

turn your gain down, dip your pickups in wax, adjust the eq, or GET A NEW AMP!!
Out here you've gotta know where your towel is!

Most pickups are already dipped in wax, some more then others. Helps with feeback and noise issues.

Also like stated above get a noise gate, perferably a ISP Decimator.

Also dont pratice facing your guitar and right infront of it and turn down the gain. Also learn to mute your strings when you not playing.
