Hey guys, i have some soldering I need to do but i need some assistance with the wiring. Im not sure which wires go where and ive looked at different strat wiring diagrams for at least 1 hour a day for the last week. the guitar i have is a strat copy so thats probably the reason im having alot of problems. i took the guitar into a shop (Long & Mcquade) where they refused to do just the soldering, they said they have to put it all back together themselves. i previously took the bridge protector off so i could spray paint it, and some of the wiring was loose and feel apart...the shop wants me to pay them $200 for 10 minutes of soldering and screwing back on a bridge protector, which i cant afford.

if you think you can help me out please leave me a message, your email address, MSN, AIM what ever, thanks.

So what is the issue with the wiring diagrams? Do you not understand them? That is a common problem, and if that is the case you can get more simply illustrated ones that show pretty much hoe it looks in real life.

If you take a picture or draw a diagram I can help you put it back together. My AIM is in my sig if that's more convenient for you.

well the problem im mainly having is on the diagrams the pickups have two wires coming from them, a black and a white one, the black one going into the the volume and the white one going into the 5 way bridge selector
like so

the way that mine is wired is, one wire is coming from each pickup to the volume
like so

leaving the two tone controls and the 5 way selector(i dont know what to solder to what)

then coming from the guitar, the wire connecting to the bride(white) and a wire coming from the jack(yellow)

Whats your issue?

Which Long and McQuade did you go to, what city?
the one is Oshawa. the thing that pissed me off the most is that the sales man threw the price in my face without even letting me talk to the electrician and telling me the electrician wou'dn't just solder the wires for me, he said i would have to bring the bridge protector in with all the screws to they can put it all back together(even re-stringing it) even though i just want the thing soldered.

On your pickups, see how the wire coming from the pickup has an insulated wire, and then a metal braid around the insulated wire? The metal braid thing goes to ground. The other wire is your hot connection..

Now, What's the rest of your problem? I don't quite understand what you're saying.

yea ok the metal wire has been soldered to the volume and there are 3 white wires that aren't soldered to anything

the rest of my problem is i dont know wtf im doing... i dont know what is the ground all the other stuff... i just need to be told what to solder to what in baby steps...

the other thing that messing me up is that my 5 way switch looks like this

Bah! I've only worked with that kind of switch once, and I can't remember how the lugs work.

Are you willing to buy a normal switch? Get one off eBay. Shouldn't cost much at all.
cant' im 17 and dont have a credit card an my parents are afraid of internet fraud lol

anyway here are some more pictures, these are a few pictures of the volume control with the metal wires being soldered into the volume

Just doing the best I can.

The only problem I anticipate is that the switch chooses the neck, even though it looks like you're picking the bridge, based on where the switch is set. This is because I'm not sure how to align the lugs, so it's a bit of a guess.
It's just a quick flip around if you get it wrong.

Double check by tapping the pickups with a metal object, while the guitar is plugged in.
