personally i believe we sohuld adopt some new ones;

1. Love your school companions, who will be your co-workers in life.

2. Love learning which is the food of the mind; be as grateful to your teachers as to your parents.

3. Make every day holy by good and useful deeds and kindly actions.

4. Honour good men and women; be courteous to all; bow down to none.

5. Do not hate or speak evil of any one; do not be revengeful, but stand up for your rights and resist oppression.

6. Do not be cowardly. Be a good friend to the weak, and love justice.

7. Remember that all good things of the earth are produced by labour. Whoever enjoys them without working for them is stealing the bread of the workers.

8. Observe and think in order to discover the truth. Do not believe what is contrary to reason, and never deceive yourself or others.

9. Do not think that they who love their own country must hate and despise other nations, or wish for war, which is a remnant of barbarism.

10. Look forward to the day when all men and women will be free citizens of one community, and live together as equals in peace and righteousness.

Honor your Father and Mother
You shall not murder
You shall not commit adultery
You shall not steal
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor
You shall not covet your neighbor's house
You shall not covet your neighbor's wife

Do these things not make sense for a good day to day living?

That's kind of pointless to say because it varies according to your morality.

No, that was the Seven Deadly Sins (which are now 14 Deadly Sins)

The Commandments are next in line for a redecorating.

Ah, so it was. My mistake.
Sooner or later, they'll just re write the Bible...

Hehe yeah, I'm not religious at all but well the only way you can trust the bible is if we know it is exactly the way it has always been, i.e. the exact words of God. If we adapt those to fit with modern society, we're squeezing more credibility out of them.

That's why I think it's kinda dumb to for example demand gay marriages in church, as the bible clearly states that it's wrong and the church wedding is a christian ceremony. I do promote equal rights for all people regardless of gender or race or sexuality but still, that's like a Nazi coming to me demanding to be invited to dinner, I should be free to say no cuz it's my house.

But I don't neglect his right to eat, though.

What's so socialist about them? I don't see anything about distribution of wealth or a nation-state.

you can't see any socialist ideology in this?

think you need to read up on your socialism

Marriage is a social contract. They should be allowed to marry, it's just not likely that it will be performed in the Christian church.

There's about as much socialist ideology in this as there is in an Aesop's Fable.

You can interpret nearly anything to contain a myriad of ideological subtexts.

"7. Remember that all good things of the earth are produced by labour. Whoever enjoys them without working for them is stealing the bread of the workers."

you see nothing socialist in that?

"
10. Look forward to the day when all men and women will be free citizens of one community, and live together as equals in peace and righteousness."

or that?

you cannot see that these are overtly socialist?

Which was exactly my point. I don't want a Nazi at my table but I don't deny his right to eat. Homosexuals should be allowed the same romantic/societal/economic benefits of marriage that straight people do, but it's wrong to demand the right to do it in church as the bible is against it.

It was just an example of people squeezing credibility out of the bible by adapting God's words to modern society, people criticize the church for being conservative but they have to be, otherwise they can't be trusted in carrying the true message from God.

pfft

you merely show your ignorance of other cultures, through your love of 'god' :cough:money:cough: and your scepticism of what are in fact great words that could inspire

instead of talking about punishment, and wrongs, we can talk about the righ things to do;

like respecting others, of all races, religions and classes

and through the unionising of all people's as well as the respect of goods, which have been produced by your brother,

instead of the US model of throw sh*t away, and create waste
