My band is going to record in a little studio that just opened up near us. We're going to record a cover just for a bit of fun really seeing as how the rates are fairly cheap. I'm just wondering though what will we legally allowed to do with the song we record?

You couldn't sell it unless you had a royalties agreement with whoever owned the copyright on the original piece. You can hand it out for free all you want though.

Theres nothing against the law about it, you cant actually make a profit from it, but lets both be honest i dont think you will get in trouble unless it gets on the internet.
