Does anyone know of any software (free) that you can take a MIDI file, and the software will manipulate it so that it sounds like a different instrument.

I ask because I have a file on Guitar Pro, and I'm trying to get a realistic strings sound, but there isn't really a good one on there.
Funny words.
Audacity if you're on Windows, Garageband if you're on mac.

The software won't do it for you though. You'll have to do it.
Erm, any sequencer that supports VSTs and MIDI will do that.
there is no fear in this heart.

How am I being or trying to be fabulous/glamorous?

Costs a fair bit*, but Cubase does this I think.

Use some fancy VST plugins. My mate just got a full orchestral plugin that sounded suprisingly good.
