My sister is turning 9 soon, and I really wanna get her a guitar. We've been playing some and she's no virtuoso, but she's enthusiastic (she practices her recorder 3-4 hours a day ) and I'm hoping once she gets stronger fingers/calluses that'll translate.

What I'd like help with is the weight of it. I have a MIM strat I let her use, but she says its to heavy for her. She is very skinny, so it makes sense. I don't really wanna get a 'kiddy' guitar because if it turns out she doesn't enjoy guitar as much as i think she will, I'd love to have another one

So does anyone know of guitar models/brands that are light weight but pretty decent quality?

Thanks

daisy rock guitars are smaller scale and made for girls.

most have the same specs as schecters. just find one that she likes.

imo, it's a mistake to get a 3/4 sized strat.
intonation is a bitch, and the ones out there are sub par.

Id deffinately check out some daisy rock. Not so much the stupid extravagant ones (Ive heard theyre pretty damn heavy, heavier than a standard strat.) but the comfier regular looking ones.

Decent specs.

Wouldnt go with anything short scale. You want to get her something shell stick with and will last her.

The Dean Vendetta XM is light and a good quality. Cheap as hell too.
Or you could get Daisy Rock because they might be more fitting for your sister's size.

I know a great guitar that your sister would love, but it may be to expensive.

http://eastwoodguitars.com/

Look at the airline 2p deluxe (first one)
It is extremely light and it will keep you satsified fro a very long time.
The only thing is, it is $700.

It's kind of 'love or hate' with this guitar, but if you want something light - it ain't gettin' much lighter than this. I played it in a store myself several times, quality and sound seemed good.

If you want something cheaper that is still decent, you might want to take a look at this:
