7, for sure if you aren't interested in bass and like the idea of the 7 from your washy experience. I used to play bass and switched to guitar then started playing 7's and it's what I've settled on for what I want to play as my main instrument.

my Washburn got me started in 7s and I have played my friends Ibanez. I'm going to get a Schecter 7. I don't know which one yet

I'd get a bass before a 7 string, especially if you write alot. But, if you trade in the Washburn, another 7 might make more sense.
