I recently decided to look for a new amp.
I play a ton of different music, alternative, metal, blues, post-punk, etc...
I have an Epiphone Les Paul-100, and a custom Strat that I built.
I have two 15-watt amps, a Marshall CDR-15 and a Line 6 Spider III.
It's about time I upgrade.

I'm looking for a tone somewhat like the following:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awv0CurP_d8 (love the improv/intro)

I'm somewhat short on cash and am willing to spend up to $550 on a new amp.
Suggestions welcome.
Help me out here.

Well I know claudio sanchez used a triple rec in that video so maybe a b-52 at series would be good, apparently they're similar sounding.

Not really, people around here seem to just throw around the "poor man's mesa" to any amp that has a good bit of gain and is cheap.

It's a good amp though regardless, I'd take a look at it.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

Basic list for Metal Amps On A Budget (MAB).

Randall RG50TC
B-52 AT112
Peavey Valveking 112
Used 6505/5105 (pretty bad cleans)
Bugera (be wary, possibly bad reliability)

You might need an OD pedal at least with the Valveking.

Slayerfrk, That's not a 'good one' if you want a sound of a guitar at all.
Thread starter, have a look at the RG50tc, B-52's maybe, or a valveking. I've found the valveking to be lifeless though.
