if you know what youre doing, and have a drum machine, then yes, it does sound that good.

i have the UX1, its pretty much the same except i have a mic input. which is great because the 1/4 input doesnt work anymore

I can't get that kind odf tone for high gain stuff at all with my GX. Maybe it's my EQing or something but that clip sounds awesome. I have gotten good tones for mid gain and clean but have struggled for super high gain stuff.

I'd say it's partly the great drums that make it better. Also, I'm guessing he's pretty good at mixing & mastering or whatever. Basically, studio magic.

But I believe Toneports are pretty good.

Same thing as with everything - practice.

But yeah, me neither. Best I've done so far is in my profile (short prog-ish). Sounds a lot better than the guitar alone.

The Pod's and Toneport's can sound amazing, but you have to be willing to put in the time to tweak the hell out of it. The parametric EQ is key to dialing in really good tones, but you have to know how to use it and what frequencies need to be cut and boosted. If you've got any post EQ'ing and mastering skills, you can get a Pod or Toneport to sound that much better.

Here's a somewhat heavy song I recorded using my PodXT. I'm no editing, mixing, and mastering genius, so the majority of my stuff is pretty raw. I never added a bass track to this song, that would really help with the low end.

i have no formal education in EQ.
Great song, btw, it would of sounded better with bass though.

and could this thing...take over my amp?
because if i can use this thing to pump out more than what i can do on my amp out of my PC speakers... i'll have no need for my amp anymore, ill just get bigger speakers!

You'll gain more knowledge of editing, mixing, and mastering over time. I know a fair amount from working with a few different people and doing a lot of work at a friends studio. Feel free to PM me with any questions if you decide on getting a Toneport, I'll try and help you out.

I was going to add a bass track but somehow never got around to it, no big deal. If you're going to do more recording and playing at home, a TonePort or Pod could easily replace your current gear. Be sure to look into getting a nice pair of monitors rather than computer speakers.

All of the songs on my Soundclick page were recorded using a PodXT, unless noted. There's a few clips of my Vetta 2 and Legacy, but they're labeled. Line6 products get a lot of bashing around here just because of the Spider amps. Kids regurgitating what they've read and generalizing about all Line6 products.

Yeah, they sound great.
It sucks that you have to install SP2 on your computer though if you don't have it already.

Service pack 2 for Windows XP.

I have Toneport and you can get good tones out of it. The stock ones are pretty turd sounding and you really need to mess with the EQ and Cabinet settings to get a good sound but it IS possible.

I have some clips on my profile if you're interested.

The Toneports all use the same Gearbox software, yes.

EDIT: I'm quite sure that the keyboard has to be used as a MIDI device, the gearbox software itself doesn't have any keyboard modes.

+1. People bitch because they sound digital, it's like "WELL, IT'S ON A ****ING COMPUTER!!!" or in the POD's case, it's only about the size of 2-3 pedals and it has the sounds of dozens of pedals.

You see, those are the Line 6 products I really like, I just bitch a lot about most of their amps
