The guitar ive had my eyes on for a while has recently been looking at for a while has
switched its 85's (EMG's) for a 89

Whats the difference? probs been asked before but i couldn't find it

i like 85s better than 89s
i jus put an 81 and an 85 in my bc rich, and my esp has 89s and i dont like it personally

89 have a push-pull pot that splits the coils in the pup for a more single-coil like sound.

Schecter Hellraiser by any chance?

Main difference is that the 89 can be used as a humbucker and a single coil as it is in esscense 2 EMG single coils instead of an outright humbucker like the 85.

It basically sounds like an 85, except with coil tapping capabilities.

The 89 is an 85 with coiltap. That's it.
Just like the 81TW is to the 81.
