Hey,
I'm having a lot of difficulty playing quick improvised runs straight off the bat over the top of instrumental tunes. I listen to a lot of Vai and McLaughlin and I always hear them pulling out some amazing lines... I really don't know how to improve on my improv.
My technique is ok... I practice all my scales with a metronome a lot, I'm 16 and I've been learning for about 3 or 4 years now...

Any help on improving my improvised runs would be great... that is, if it can be helped ....

I should probably note, I'm soloing over my own heavy rock instrumental tunes + "Dark Eyes", changing modes every second bar....
