i wasn't really sure where this would go since theirs no genreal "others" instruments section or anything so i just put it here. but anyways i'm looking to buy an electric violin after playing acoustic for 7 years but i can barely find any btwn 200 and 400 which is the price range i've set. there's the 99 dollar one that sounds like it sucks from the reviews i've read and then the next big company one up is 500 dollars from fender and i really don't want to spend that much. anyone know of any good ones for somewhere around 300 bucks?

Why are you on UG?

Fail!

Now go think about Mark Wood somewhere else!

I wouldn't go for an electric violin unless you can get one which is fantastic; the majority of them are shockingly bad. I'd stick with acoustic...

Why not just but a microphone for a violin? That's what everyone else does...

Not the mic with a stand, but the special microphones for violin that are placed at its bridge, so you can then move around anywhere. Like a pickup, but not. That's what most live acts use, etc.

There are special mics that you stick on the violin and they sound MUCH better than an electric violin. Any electric violin under $500 sounds like trash. Ive been playing the violin/viol for 8 years now and ive been interested in an electric violin/viola (5 strings) many times but everytime i try anything cheap it sounds like crap.

would you run an electric violin through a guitar amp?

or like a vocal PA?

or a keyboard/bass amp?

Electric violins sound terrible.

Bond begs the differ.
