Hey there

I use a Peavey Transtube 110, but now i've bought a Epiphone Les Paul Standard and I personally think the comb sucks!
I play GnR, Arctic Monkeys, Red Hot Chili Peppers .. Alternative/modern/classic rock .. and well, i don't have too much money.
I'm looking for a warm, deep, crunchy sound!

Any ideas for an amp?

Yeah, brushes are so much better than combs
What is your exact budget then?

if you got the money, get a marshall jcm 800 combo, check for used. You could look into Peavey Valvekings too

I wouldn't go any lower than a Peavey Classic 30 or Crate V32 of some sort. Those will run you around $300 to $600 depending on if you go new or used,

However if you don't need the volume some sort of 5 watt tube amp should suit you fine.

Crate V8, Valve Junior, Blackheart Little Giant etc...

They do not look like they have too many options and effects, is that right?

^
^ So the only thing that sepperates the 5watt's from the class'30 is the volume? That's a hell of a price-jump for one little issue!
Although, high volume is not highly nessecary!

^ Yeah, however you can always buy effects later. What you want is an amp with a good basic tone to build off of.

Like if you get a bad amp with lots of effects now it won't sound good even with effects, However this you can use at any point and get good sounds effects or not.

However if your just practicing in your bedroom and don't need a tube amp look into the hybrids like the Vox ad30vt, very versatile and lots of effects. They also sound pretty good at lower volumes for practicing. Though I would still prefer the 5 watt tube amps over this.

Edit: ^ Haha yeah, also they have less features and probably won't do as much without two channels. However volume and extra feature really aren't needs that effect your tone.

No problem .

Edit #2: Almost forgot to mention you'd need a cabinet to use one of those heads, however you can buy the combo versions of the 5 watters.

^ Like I said if volume isn't an issue any one of the 5 watt amps I listed should work out great.

just to add a little query to the TS's original question, are there any low wattage valve amps that have a reverb function?

Not that i've seen, i'm sure someone else could point one out if there is one but I haven't come across any. Not 5 watts anyhow, if you look in the 15 watt range you'll find amps like the Blues Junior which have reverb. I believe the V16 might also have reverb.

Either way you could always buy a reverb pedal.
