I've cleared over a thousand songs off my itunes as my musical taste has changed. I'm listening to more mellow stuff now. I had a huge Hendrix binge and I really enjoyed it, and I'm quite into funk and material with some awesome guitar in it, but not like punk or metal or rock, I want something different.

So: Artists similar to Hendrix, some funk, some good guitar, and some really nice mellow stuff (obviously not all in one ). Just some new bands or artists I can really get into.

Any help appreciated, liste loads of people and possible albums.

A more mellow guy i like is Raul Midon. He is like an R&B guitar player and he is awesome. And if you like him you should try Jason Mraz. But i think he isnt what you are looking for, but he is still really good.

try counting crows, clutch, cream, srv, etc
Oct. 20th, 2009: New guitar AND front row for Mars Volta.

Is that a ukulele in your pants, or did you just rip ass to the tune of "Aloha Oi"?

I met Sonic Youth on June 30th, and Mars Volta on Oct 20th.

Thanks for the replies you lot, I forgot to mention psychedelic too.

dubes216 I quite like Jason Mraz but there's something about it I'm not hugely keen on.

soundgarden19 thanks I forgot about SRV, and I've got ome counting crows songs.

Thanks BD I shall download Mogwai as much as I can.

Any more suggestions? I'd really quite like some similar material to the Chili Peppers Blood Sugar album.

edit: post-rock is good too.

I can't really recommend much stuff that's similar to RHCP or Hendrix but I can give you a few post-rock artists:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor,
65daysofstatic (Post-Rock mixed with Electronic/Glitchy beats),
Sigur Rós,
Explosions In The Sky,
God Is An Astronaut,
Foxhole.

You could try a few of those for now.

Thanks I have quite a lot of Sigur Ros, I suppose they're the most well known.

thanks for your help

You are EXTREMELY WRONG! I have played it. I own an 18W and it would be an awful stereo amp, it's way too bright, breaks up too easily and so on. Secondly, why would a guitar store sell an hifi amp.

Oh, actually I can recommend the album The Shepherd's Dog by Iron & Wine, mellow Folk/Acoustic stuff but the album is quite Latin influenced and can sound moderately funk-ay on some occasions.

It's the same case with Iron & Wine as with Frusciante I'm afraid

Thank you very much though, I love Iron & Wine so much, really wanna see them.

Anything like that though would be nice to hear about

hmm, lets see. you are probably aware of neil young? if not the album "harvest" is one of the best.

Aaah damn.

In which case I recommend The Desert Sessions, Josh Homme from Queens Of the Stone Age's on/off side project. Some really nice blusey Rock. God, I hope you haven't got their discography also.

That's alright man, try "The Tangent", "Riverside". I'm sure I'll think of more, I know there's one at the back of my head somewhere but I can't think of it right now. I'll edit my post if I do
#29
They're not that amazing IMO, just the first ones that came to mind, but if you haven't already checked them out, look at The Mars Volta, Ozric Tentacles (psych), Incubus, and that's all I can think of now.
