Its not at all like you think it is. A lot of times they replace all cards back into the deck after each hand, and have many decks going at once, being shuffled a lot, etc, etc, etc.... Counting cards isn't as easy as it would seem.

Many people try though.

Technically you don't "beat the system" you just get a statistical advantage.

yes, blackjack is a game of skill. if you follow the rules and pay attention you can actually make money on it. people can count cards, but you dont want ot get caught doing it. and it gets ridiculously difficult if you have a lot of decks.

Hell I wouldn't even call it an advantage, its a very slight increase over a long period of time.

Also, the varying amount of decks they use in casinos screws with your advantage.

yeah it would seem like a good shuffle would ruin it... but yeah it was a sick movie! "if i ever see you in this town again, im gonna break your cheekbone with a small hammer then i'll kill you"=best quote ever
well....sorry

most casinos use at least 10 decks, but yeah you can do it, getting caught of course gets you ejected form the casino (they can't arrest you for it, but they can harass and intimidate you)

Assuming they only use one deck and you come in at the start of said deck, it can be a decent advantage, but not a sure win. The best system is to play craps. Rolling dice involves lots more skill than counting the cards in a deck.

the amount of decks has nothing to do with it? If you card count, you know when you're in the advantage whether there are 1000 decks, or only 1.

they probably wouldn't go quite that far, but they may rough you up a bit.

yeah it does matter, because you have to keep track of what cards have been played, the more decks there are the harder this is.

Yeah that would work if you're playing with your buddies or something and you guys are just using one deck.

Can someone really control how a dice rolls well?

There is skill in rolling dice. My grandfather taught me a bunch of things about craps and he consistently made money gambling. But just like anything, you don't win ever roll.

not the way theyre doing it. when they count they add a +1 for everyting <5, a +0 for 6-9, and a -1 for 10+

so you just have a number. if its positive, bet big, if its negative, hold back.

that said, with 1000 decks, the effect would be almost unnoticeable. sure, 4 aces are gone, but theres still 3996 more aces.

a guy from MIT in the movie uses very, very quick mathematics in his head to calculate his percentage of getting whatever card, taking into consideration the cards on the table and a bunch of other stuff... and he makes a killing

I watched a documentary on some guy who did on the discovery channel late one night. It was pretty awesome, he spent 2-3 years learning to control the outcome of the dice and made a few million on it.

Then got caught. Hahaha.

I haven't seen the movie, but counting cards tells how the range of deck to a degree. You know if there are more low numbered or high numbered cards left, thus making it easier to know whether to hit or stay. You won't win every hand, more likely 60% or so, which would be a very high winning percentage in gambling anyway. Plus, blackjack is a very simple game to play and is common sense for the most part.

yeah but they way they do it is a lot more involved switching players out and all that and you have to keep track of the overall deck number, they used a simplified version of the actual scheme in the movie, but youhave to wait for the deck number to be high then you start betting but you also have to keep track of how many of each card is in the deck and whatnot,
