A friend and I are looking to start a small band to do open mic nights and basically just jam out and have fun. We are really having a hard time finding a song we both know. We listen to different types of music, me metal and him alternative, and have been trying to find a middle ground.

At this point we are going with any song relatively easy we can both play all of. So, any suggestions of songs or any?

What were the first songs your bands started playing?

I've been playing for a year and he has a few years on me.

teen spirit has been suggested a lot. Call me retarded, but that song really annoys me. Everyone says it's cake but it isn't really that easy to get it to sound just like the album. The percussive strums in between the chords and the open chords really throw me off and I can't get the rhythm down at all.

I'll try whole lotta love, zepplin rules. Thanks

You could try something else by nirvana? Breed? Come as you are? Pennyroyal Tea? Heart Shaped Box? Or how about something like Queens of the Stoneage? Go with the flow is a great straightforward song (only three chords) and is easy to play with anyone.

And yeah how long have you been playing? Teen spirit isn't exactly that hard.
