i was thinking of getting one of these
originally i was thinking the 2000 dsl head
but i was recommended the 800
sounds great except it has only one channel
which sorry but simply i cannot due with the amount of switching i do from on and off distortion
so my questions are mainly on the 900, isn't there 2 kinds?
also anything on the dsl head as well
(i play a lot of classic rock blues sorts of things, with some metal too, also info on cleans is welcomed)
thanks

right Metallica is a given. Personally I like to pretend the bus exploded and killed them all in '86.

there are 2 channel 900's.
800's are sweet. I like the 9's too. But I hate 2000's.

If you get a 900, try to get an early (90-92) model before it was a dual reverb or ssx.

I have the 2 channel JCM800 and it is amazing. You will not be disappointed, Id go with one from 83-86 though because they changed em after that.

the 4100's are the good ones. those are the high gain dual reverb 900's. the MKII dual reverb (with the master volume) aren't as good and neither are the SSX. they're still good heads, but not as good as the 4100

the JCM 800 and 900 dot have much of a clean channel (barely any headroom), they are great for metal

tsl 2000 have lots of reliability issues, (and imho tone issues... they have a reputation for crappy tone)

DSL2000 are ok they got 2 channels and 1 eq i believe
just remeber that the jcm2000 line isnt what defined the sound Marshall
why only marshall? is it because of the brand name?

i recommend a Laney amp they have amazing tone. (ie VH100R)
i would pick a Laney over any jcm2000, even 5 DSL/TSL!

or try the Peavey classic, that is a great amp for you genre

Get a Mesa Mark IV or a Roadster. It rapes the marshalls.

Oh, I just remmeber the new Carvin X100b reissues are shipping there's still no sound clips but there supposed to be great. People who preordered should be getting them this week so there should be some clips on youtube soon. I'd really check it out if I were you they're supposed to be alot like JCM800 just with more gain and two channel. The best part is you can get the Head for $700 new.....
