Hey guys. Wherever did that Orange thread go because I have a very much established faith in this brand, considering I never really paid them attention before.

Recently, I have been on the hunt for an amp in between my practicing amp (a Peavey Bandit) and my gigging amp (Marshall JCM 800 2205). I needed something that had valves and some of the power of the Marshall with the combo size and convenience as well as tone, like the Bandit. The problem with the Peavey was that it had too much gain, little versatility and it was way too harsh, but still great for a solid state amplifier. The Marshall was great sounding, but too loud, overbearing and not really all that great compared to others. So I have been effortlessly (by that I mean unenthusiastically) looking for a new amplifier. I have been round Sydney, trying Mesa Boogies, Marshalls, Bogners, Peaveys, Ulbricks, Vox amps etc at different stores.

Then the other day, I walked into Allans Music and noticed a couple of Orange Amps there. Never have I really researched into Orange amps before and sure thing I haven't ever played one. So I picked up an AD30 and tried it, exploring it for a good hour and a half. It had a great smooth tone and I thought, "geez, Orange is a freaking great brand!" with a crystal clean tone and a great growling overdrive. Unfortunately, it didn't have the balls (only minutely off the mark) to carry through with my band's heavier songs so I passed.

I then went back the next week and tried the Marshall JCM 200 TSL 60 watt combo that I was so keen on before, which was then followed by the Orange Rockerverb 50. Holy crap, it was amazing. It had balls, it picked up every single note and nuance of my playing, it had the cleans of the AD30, with that powerful mid-rich overdrive channel. I really kind of made a mistake by pulling out my wallet, but the tone was worth it.

Anyway, I'll have pics up soon probably for all interested. Let's hear about your guy's quest for great tone.

You bought a Rockerverb 50? Nice. That should be your main gigging amp!

I sold my Triple Rectifier to get a Rockerverb 50. Theyre my favorite. The cleans are untouchable, IMO...cant get any better. And then you hit that thick, midrange flavored overdrive channel and WOW. It gets soooo saturated but yet still maintains all of your guitars tone and stuff. Beautiful. Congrats!

We need picks. Ill put up picks when mine gets in later this week!

Oh it is my main gigging amp. I'm selling the others now.

You pretty much hit it spot on in your description. Thanks mate. Enjoy yours as well mate.

Yep, pics will be up next week of mine with my other gear, and maybe some process pics of my custom guitar that I am building.
