Alright, well i found something i may be interested in purchasing, basically it's a brand new Ibanez AEL40SE, priced at 400 bucks. What do you guys think? Basically this will be my first acoustic ever, and i think it looks just damn sexy!

I have the 50 (the only difference is a few more accents in the woodwork) and i LOVE it! At first the action was a little high so i brought it in, now it's my baby! 400$ is a good price for it, try it out and I'll be amazed if you don't walk out with it

Alright thanks! Great to have a comment from somebody who owns a guitar in the same series! I'll probably go try it out tomorrow

Try it out very carefully. Look at the bracing in good light and make sure it is glued on properly without an excess of glue built up. Make sure the neck is straight and that the body isn't warping. You have to be very careful dealing with Ibanez acoustics; I should know, having sold them for a long time. In my opinion, you can do much better elsewhere, but its ultimately your decision. Ibanez has horrible quality control, though. In my experience, maybe one out of every ten Ibanez acoustics come in without serious defects. One came in with a hole in the back, dead center. Not a chip, not a ding, but a hole. Like someone smashed it down on a pointy object, looked at it, and sent it on its way. Watch out.
Sincerely, Chad.

for $400, i would personally suggest the Art & Lutherie Cedar or Spruce with cutaway and Godin Q1 electronics. i have a cedar top, and it's been absolutely wonderful as my first guitar. it does need a bit of tweaking in terms of tuning if you leave it overnight, but it does, for the most part, stay in tune quite well. I've used it on stage for the last 6 months every weekend for about 4 hours each time. it's just a great guitar.

Strange . . . I never have any problems in tuning with my cedar top. Seagull is a fantastic value, as well.

it might be because i dont take care of it THAT well. i dont have a humidifier, and i leave it on the stand overnight all the time. that mixed in with me living in toronto means that it's not doing so well =X

i think my neck actually might be a little warped as well too =/ the 1st and 2nd fret are straight in relecance to themselves, then from the 3rd to like 10th fret, theres a little concave bend(if you see the fretboard as the top), then from there to the fretboard near the soundhole, it's straight in relevance to itself again. so yea... i get fretbuzz and such, but i dont really mind since i've abused that guitar quite a bit to begin with(first guitar... so i've experimented doing not so good things to it).

anyway, Art & Lutherie, Norman, Simon & Patrick, and Seagull are all great guitars that you can find at around $400.

According to the salesman, there is a 'Light imperfection', but not specified.

Well, that's vague. It could mean the guitar's finish somehow has developed a sunspot or there is a dimple in the guitar's finish, or the whole guitar could be askew. Again, be wary, especially with Ibanez.

I called, and they said the problem was that there is a small crack in the finish around the pickup, he noted the problem was only slightly visual, but everything else was in proper order.

If you're alright with it, then fine. A crack in the finish is usually the sign of a larger problem, though (body beginning to warp, finish shrinking, etc).

Is this fixeable / preventable in any way?

Also, what does 'warping' mean exactly?

It means that the body is suffering drastic problems due to humidity and tension. When it afflicts the entire body, the damage is usually irreparable. The finish drying up and shrinking, though a sign of a poor, polymer-based finish, is preventable. Proper humidity will correct this, though certain cracks may remain.

Or, it could simply be a crack that occurred from a drastic drop in temperature (in which case, you are extremely lucky it did not effect the body). It could be a number of things; it's a gamble. Just make sure you can get your money back if this "cosmetic" flaw is a deeper problem.
Sincerely, Chad.
