First... I'm aware that you folks probably hate these threads and I apologize. I've been researching like crazy on here but I'm in a real bind and need some faster answers.

Both speakers in my crate gfx212 amp spontaneously combusted at practice a few nights ago and I want to pick up some cheap replacements so that I have an amp for our show next week. I found some like new eminence texas heat speakers selling locally for 50 bucks a pop and 100 bucks is pretty much the extent of my budget.

Question: I need to know if I can use them safely and produce decent sound on my amp or if I will have issues... especially regarding the watts and ohms... Will the speakers be underpowered? Fry my head? and so on.

Here are the specs for both:

Amp:
(http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/2001/GFX212T.html)- Misc info
(http://crateamps.com/pdf/manuals/GFX120a212a.pdf) - Original manual
-120watts
-2 12" speakers, 8ohmz
-Speakers are parallel (Wires go from head to left speaker... Then left speaker is wired directly to right speaker)
-Open back

Speakers: (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Eminence-Patriot-Texas-Heat-12-Guitar-Speaker?sku=660031)

Thank you,
Chris Cramer

You might wanna take your amp to a tech and find out why your speakers spontaneously combusted. That's not normal.

Honestly, I beat the hell out of it... It's seen a ton of gigs and practices from me and even the guy i bought it from. I actually had it cranked a little higher than normal as well (7 or 8) when it blew... So i really wasn't surprised.

As far as I can tell... and from a point of absolutely no expertise... One of the wires snapped on the left speaker and the right just straight up blew (no visual signs on that speaker).

I only paid 100 bucks for the amp originally, and I'll be looking to get something better over the next few months, so i'm willing to take my chances as long as I know the speakers are compatible.

Thanks for all the responses so far!

Well, for the sake of future people coming accross this thread with a similar question...

I bought the speakers and installed them today... and I must say... What an AMAZING difference that made.

Everything is so clear and crisp... They are seemingly louder than the old speakers with the volume at half of what I used to play for gigs. Ha- part of me is actually glad the old setup went sour.

Thanks again for the comments.

Later,
Chris
