is the height of those pups on ibanez j.customs (RG8470Z) adjustable?
what do you call those that are adjustable? and the ones that aren't.

There are screws on the side of the pickups that will allow you to adhust the height of the pickup overall and also each polepiece is also adjustable. Btw J customs come with Dimarzios or emgs which are like any other pickup so its all good.

the pictures tell me that the pups are DIRECTLY mounted on the wood. is it still possible to adjust the height of pups?

All that means is they screwed the height adjustment screws directly into the body rather than using a pickup ring to suspend the pickup from the guitars top.

then raising the screws will make the pickups loose, won't it?

I expect they will still have the springs placed over the screws to keep the pickups from being loose. If it is indeed hard mounted to the body im sure they would have got the height right. If not you can definatly adjust the pole piece heights
