Well today I found out in my guitar class(it's so easy, it's boring) that our teacher is going to be away and he is assigning us a project where we have to look up a famous guitarist and get lots of information on them then present it.

We also have to get one of their songs on a cd/mp3 player for the class to hear.

I already had many idea's, Jimi Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen,Buckethead(hard to find info on him though) and slash, but I was wondering, what are some famous guitarists you guys think I could my project on?

Edit: also if you have a good song by them, you could mention that as well
Thanks

I'd say, go with Buckethead, because he's quite a challenge.

Or do SRV..

#7
Jimmy Page would be a good one. Pretty much any song that Zepp did is good. I would also look at SRV. He did alot of cool stuff, especially Prida and Joy and Cant Stand the Weather.

+1... Not enough people think of him as a guitarist, and he's actually really damn good.

Buckethead is good though...

I would do Jimi Hendrix, even though he is very overatted in my opinion!

It would be better to do than Dimebag, or you would just sound like another Dimebag fanboy, those ones that liked him just cause he died...

(Saying that, you could say that about Jimi Hendrix, but Jimi's more of an icon...)

just pick one you like and read up about him on his website or his band's website.

personally i think that Tony Iommi's "story" is very interesting, and it is well documented. and for a sample of his playing i would use War Pigs, Killing Yourself To Live, or something from his solo albums.

if i had to choose one, i would research Jimmy Page. you certainly wont be faced with a lack of information. and for a Led Zeppelin song, take your pick, theyre all fucking great. i think for an example of his loose, chilled playing style, a live recording of Since I've Been Loving You would be a brilliant example.
Does anyone remember laughter?

Manuel, please try to understand before one of us DIES.

Epiphone SG
Classical guitar
Peavey ValveKing 112
Marshall MG15

I'd say go for Buckethead though... It's not that hard to find information on anyone with any degree of fame these days thanks to the internet... Unless of course you're not allowed to use online sources?

Yeah, I though Jimi would be a very good pesrson to do this on, but I figure there are probably going to be about 2 other people doing him..

To the guy above^

For buckethead there isn;t very much about who he is, like why or how he started guitar. There just isn't that much about his like.

He is one of my favourite guitarists but without this information, I risk doing poory on the presentation..

Dude, you have to do Jason Becker!

I'm serious, it would get him more exposure and he REALLY needs it. Look him up and you'll see why.

Songs I would suggest for him would be...

Altitudes
Blue
End of the Beginning

Hell, I'll search it for you.

Daron Malakian, from System of a Down... he has a fair bit of history behind him.

Or like Dave Mustaine or something... I mean with Dave you could talk about the whole fued between him and Metallica and stuff.

Indeed, but surely your teacher would overlook that in this case, particularly if you went into detail about his musical style.

I'd say Buckethead, he's so interesting, you can present something from the "Young Buckethead" DVD, mention all the other crazy crap and end it making your class mates want to know more about this mysterious man.

BTW songs: Soothsayer.

Tom Morello. That'd be pretty fun... I'd probably do him or EVH. Maybe Jimi, but I'd be afraid of like 5 other people doing likewise.
