I've got a Hartke 3500 head, and I'm thinking about replacing the tube used in the preamp.

It's a 12AX7, and I'm wondering if I have to replace it with another 12AX7, or if I can use a different preamp tube.

Also, if I can use a different preamp tube, could you tell me which ones would be a compatible replacement for a 12AX7?

If anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Any other 12AX7 is fine, regardless of brand. Alternatively, you can also replace it with a 5751, 12AT7, or 12AY7. All of these will have less gain than a 12AX7.

That answers my question. Thanks a lot for the info.
