I'm looking into getting either a boss metal core or metal zone pedal pretty soon, and I'm not really sure what the difference in them is. What is the difference if there is any?

If you're in the US, you might be able to get a 5150 for that price. It'd be good for you, the cleans are rather bad, but the distortion is good.

Edit: Oh and in case you're looking through Ebay/Craigslist, 5150 is the same as 6505.

5150 was Eddy Van Halens signature model I believe, so kinda yes. But if you're thinking of the EVH 5150III, that's a newer (and much more expensive) amp.
