No. I snapped my high E once and sliced my finger open, so I can only assume snapping the low E would put me into a coma or something.

once on some ernie balls i didnt stretch them at all and it came unwound at the tuning head
#19
I broke a D on a bass. But it wasnt mine :p. Long story short, don't try to adjust the bass' position using the strings.
#21
Yes, but only once. I was playing and i hit the G instead of A so I did a bend to get it and it snapped.

i dont even know how you could unless the strings are really crappy, or youre trying to.

with bass its a bit different because of how you pluck the strings, but on guitar, it would never happen unless theres very unusual circumstances.

If you snap your low E isn't there a problem? It doesn't sound possible unless you either

a. over tightened.
or
b. are using riduclously old strings.

Hey if someone could find a video of a guitarist brinking one during practice that could make for a good laugh :P

What I want to know id if anyones ever broke an E on a bass. You could lose an arm that way!

That's incredible. I've never broken anything under a B string.

i'm shocked how many people say no. the low E is pretty much the only string i ever break. i suppose it depends on playing style, i play mostly thrashy metal, so a blues player would probably break the higher strings more often.
#29
I broke it twice in the first month i had my guitar.

I had absolutely no picking technique so i was basically raping my strings
if they had feelings they would've been yelling "no means no!!!" and was basically bitch slappin them and kept pounding away haha

Twice, the second time it was tuned to D, it didn't cut half, it just got loose near the bridge.. Unless you're using 6mm strings, i don't think that it's so easy to get it "snapped"..
#31
Technically, it was a C string, as I was in drop C at the time. But yes, I have. Right at the bridge, too.
#32
yeah, but not playing normally

You're talking about the Low E string right? You know, the biggest one?

If you are, then Jesus Christ, you must have strong fingers.

That's what I was thinking. Maybe he thinks low as in closest to to the bottom of the guitar.

I have .13's on my SG, and the low E unraveled from too much tuning from C to D (it's in drop C, so when I want to play a song in standard, I tune it to D and put a capo on the second fret) but it didn't snap...just unraveled. It happened Sunday acutally. I got new strings today
