Hey guys, I am building a guitar at the moment and made the neck. I messed up in a few spots to the point where it is too skinny to be comfortable to play. So I was wondering how walnut would sound in a mahogany body guitar as the neck. I was going to use maple but I like the look of walnut much more and I think it would be cool to have something different. Any thoughts on how it the walnut and mahogany would sound together as opposed to maple and mahogany?

Thanks guys.

I doubt it would be neck heavy. Walnut isn't that heavy as a wood as to outweigh entire mahogany body. Personally, I think walnut and mahogany would go together wonderfully. The Gibson "The Paul" series switched from walnut to mahogany when they reintroduced the model as the "The Paul Firebrand Deluxe." They chose it both for cost reasons and because it is tonally similar.
Sincerely, Chad.

Thanks. I figured they would sound nice together. Do you guys think that they would look good together compared to a stained mahogany and maple?

From all my research, mahogany + walnut will sound great. It's actually what I want for my dream guitar. Mahogany body and a walnut top.

How is the walnut neck going to be finished?

I am thinking just a thin clear coat so it doesn't get sticky and so it stays smooth.

Whenever I clean my guitars, my family wonders why it smells so good; I say that I exude a fresh citrus scent from hidden orifices.
