Well, yeah, I've started listening to some Django Reinheart, and I'm intrigued by the design of the gypsy guitar. Possibly to the point of getting one.

If so, what would be a good brand to get? Also, um, what sort of strings would you go about putting on it.

In addition, are there any more recent recordings you could point me to, to highlight the sound better?
Do YOU know who Les Paul is?

Guitars:
-Epiphone Dot Studio
Amps:
-Fender Stage 112 SE
Effects:
-BBE Soul Vibe
-Boss OD-1 Overdrive
-Ibanez DE-7 Delay

[quote="'Tommy[fin"]']Nice guitar Chad, is the sound much different from a standard steel acoustic?
It has a noticeably smoother sound to it. Not a lot of sustain, but that can be a benefit when playing long jazz licks. Practically no overtones, too. It's a fine guitar, in my opinion. I played through all the jazz guitars that Elderly had and came out with this one. I don't know if there's a better value for the money out there, since I just started looking into jazz guitars, but this one has had some good reviews and feels very solid.
Sincerely, Chad.

Sounds like it's a steel strung with some of the qualities of a nylon strung classical due to the body? Which artists do you recommend I should listen to that would use that type of guitar?

I wouldn't necessarily say that. It's not too terribly different from an acoustic archtop, really. As far as artists, I don't know. This kid really cooks, I guess: http://youtube.com/watch?v=fYnCB8C49BQ

Ah, damnit. I just saw Joscho Stephan with Tommy Emmanuel live a few weeks back, Joscho is great! I didn't realize it was a gypsy guitar. They had a nice set together.

Tommyfest in Slough, by any chance? He's a fine guitarist, though I'm not the biggest of gypsy jazz fans.

If I had any talent I'd be interested too but...I have played a couple of Gitane (?) guitars. Very similar to the Cigano but more expensive (at least in store) around $600. I liked them but I can't tell you any specs, sorry.
