The bold songs were absolutely huge in the 90s, but isn't this supposed to be a list of the greatest songs and not the biggest hits? All of those songs, while big hits, were absolutely horrendous in retrospect.

Songs that should have made the countdown

Pearl Jam - Black
Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 (Should have been #1 in my opinion)
Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight
Radiohead - Karma Police
Dave Matthews Band - Crash Into Me
Rage Against the Machine - Bulls on Parade

Comment, and also feel free to add songs that you feel should have made the list.

It isn't greatest rock songs...
Some people like cupcakes exclusively, while myself, I say there is naught nor ought there be nothing so exalted on the face of God's grey Earth as that prince of foods:

the muffin!

You have to remember that they are looking at it from multiple points of view, not just your own. It's fine to say that they weren't great songs, but that's just your point of view. They are looking at what the whole world liked.

Anyway, I'm glad to see that Two Princes is on there. I loved that song back then and I still love it now.

I already knew what the #1 song would be before the show ever aired.
It was so obvious. :P

I was upset because Interstate Love Song didn't make the list.
Or any STP song for that matter. Lame.
But the smile you send in my direction makes me feel like I'm alive

Bash all you like - mmmbop was a tune
Most of those don't come as a surprise and if Creep came where it did, i'm not surprised Karma Police didn't get on

of course Nirvana is going to be number one, but I'm sure they put backstreet boys as #3 because that's the kind of music that took over in the late 90s - sh*t music

I think even I would drop my dislike for subjectivity posting as objectivity for the Backstreet Boys.

And that may be how you feel, but if it was '****' music, as stated, how did they get to be so big? There are people who like different things. The people who like Backstreet Boys probably wouldn't like some of the stuff that you like, that I like or that that other guy likes. It doesn't mean that it's right for you to brand it as bad music, just as music that you don't like to listen to.
#21
These lists are useless. Backstreet Boys at #3, above Jeremy, Iris, Losing My Religion and Enter Sandman?

Not to mention there is no Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots, Bush, or Wallflowers.

Stoopid.

Smells like Teen Spirit wins every countdown ever made. Fact.

Does my head in.

Every countdown of 100, Nirvana/Kirt Cobain/Smells like Teen Spirit wins.

I really like the song MmmBop.

lol

Yeah I think it's important to remember this is the greatest songs of the 90's that recieved radio/t.v. play. It's not specific to any genre like rock, and the list isn't too bad imo.

my addition

2pac - Life goes on.

Bury me smilin'
with G's in my pocket
have a party at my funeral
let every rapper rock it
let tha hoes that I usta know
from way before
kiss me from my head to my toe
give me a paper and a pen
so I can write about my life of sin
a couple bottles of Gin
incase I don't get in

With boys it's like "here's an incredibly complex sport to learn with sophisticated rules and various interdependent roles to play in a social unit."

For girls it's like "here's Barbie...you're fat!"
