i was wondering what kind of results i could get by placing an overdrive pedal if i placed it in front of an already distorted amp. could i get a boost type effect and/or a dirtier distortion. also if this is possible could reccomend some good overdrive pedals for this.

help will be appreciated thanks!

btw: i have a line 6 spider original.

really depends on the amp bro. w/ a SS amp, it won't sound NEARLY as good as w/ a distorted tube amp. it will pretty much do what you think it will. and it tightens up the sound too. on a clean setting it will give you anywhere from volume boost to instant classic rock crunch.

oh yea, and the bad monkey pedal is pretty sweet. $50 brand new and it will do wonders. don't worry about it being low quality b/c of the price, it really is VERY nice tone. i use one myself lol. i love that thing

yeah, i tried a Bad Monkey with my Spider III one time, it feedbacked like CRAZY!
but i turned the gain down to about 4, and it was awesome, i'm looking forward to using it with a different amp though.
