I love bands like The Flamming Lips, Radiohead, Neutral Milk Hotel ect. But I need more "Rough around the edges indie. Bands like Sonic Youth, Husker Du (If you consider them Indie) Pavement, Dinosaur Jr. and Guided by Voices are probably my favorite indie bands. I really want more Indie like that, with more of a punkier or heavier edge. I would really appreciate it if you guys could recommend me some heavier Indie bands...

It's tough to know what's classed as indie... Anyone I'dwant to recommend probably wouldn't count. If you're not a Smashing Pumpkins fan yet though, I'm sure you could be... Siamese Dream would be my recommended listening.

For bands like Husker Du check out The Minutemen, fIREHOSE, Meat Puppets and The Replacements.

You might like My Bloody Valentine as well.

try some of the early 90's emo/post-hardcore stuff, like fugazi and sunny day real estate.

Ted Leo + Pharmacists? Teenage Fanclub? Pixies? Idlewild? Rainer Maria?

Well, Rainer Maria is technically emo, but you should listen to them nonetheless.

also, a silver mount zion's new album (13 blues for thirteen moons) is surprisingly "heavy." solid album, too.
