A few weeks ago i noticed something when i was playing, whenever i played chords, my left thumb would start hurting. It feels like a muscle it stretching when i play. I play with my thumb straight and in the middle of the neck, on the line that goes through on my strat. This never happened before, and my playing is severely hindered when i move my thumb to a different spot.

Am i playing wrong or do i have an injury?
Is this typical or will it go away if i keep going?

Are you pressing on the neck? You should be lightly pushing the guitar forward with your body, so you can play barre/power chords without even putting your thumb on the neck. It sounds more like gradual strain than an injury.
