so i was at the music store yesterday and i was gonna buy some heavy gauge strings but the dude there asked me if my guitar was set up for the strings and i said no...he started explaining what needs to be done but then got distracted so what needs to be done to have heavier strings on my guitar...i have a strat knock-off guitar.

You'll need to reintonate.
You may need to adjust action.
You may need to adjust your truss rod.
You might possibly need to file the nut to accommodate the new strings.

All these are true if you are going from 9-42 to 13-60, but if you are going from 10-50 to 11-52, then just put them on.
