I was checking on ebay for the prices of used Mark IVs, and there were some ones that were brown, which were going for about $2000, and ones that were black, which were going for about $1000. What's the difference between them?

I remember when I was really young, I had a wet dream in which i was being dragged along an urban countryside by a pickup truck.

Don't ask me I have no idea how the hell it happened.

were they both heads or was the brown one a combo?
There's nothing I like better than the sound of a banjo, unless of course it's the sound of a chicken caught in a vacuum cleaner.

The list for them new is 1799$, if they're brown, it's likely something they ordered specifically, and the price was higher for the original buyer

They're made of a special wood.

Oh ok. so they're really not anything special in particular except one looks better? (and probably has different tonal qualities)

EDIT: to the poster above me - yes those are the ones i am comparing

Same amp - just the wood is a custom thing - unless you really like that wood, i'd stick with the normal black version

As said, just is just wood shell to it. Honestly, for a price of $2000 it's not worth it. You could buy the regular one for $1000 and buy the wood shell from Mesa for cheaper than $1000 and have the exact same amp for less.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.
