Hey all.

I have a bit of a problem. I'm currently attempting to write my own song(lyrics first, then music, as i'm doing the lyrics myself and music with a few friends), I haven't done this before at all, and i'm quite stumped as to how I should start. Mainly just wondering if it would be a good idea to write a song about whatever topic or try to write a song for a specific genre of music.

Thanks!

i would say write whatever topic comes to your mind. after all, music is expression correct?

I haven't done that either..personally I think It's a good idea to learn from your favorite songs ,you could use their forms first and if you feel like you wanna change it , then you can do it ,so eventually you learn lots of things especially forms if you changed it
Recommend me any good post-hardcore band

Thanks for the replys. Working on a bit of a test song titled "Silver Avenue". It might pop up in the forums at some point.
